Partly inspired by the Vorcha's ability to adept to any situation, and later based on the modular replacement system of the Salarian 'June' class fighter, Omnipod technology was developed by a team of K.D. engineers led by Doctor Josef King with the financial assistance of the Citadel's special project core. Within six years, their collaboration resulted in the 'Luther', the first true starfighter based on Omnipod technology.

OmniPods are self contained units that can contain a wide range of weapon systems and a limited selection of structural components and equipment. Designed to be compatible with most, if not all, Citadel technology the OmniPod system allows navies to rapidly change loadouts on their starfighters, utility ships, and even ground based vehicles. This technology to allow complete quick reconfiguration of the weapon systems and certain structural components. OmniPod customization and repair required as little as 30 minutes for all of the Pod-mounted components in an entire location, a very small fraction of the time required for an equivalent modification or repair for conventional vehicles.

An OmniVehicle's capabilities are mostly limited by the amount of Pod Space it possesses (both in mass and bulk) and durability, though OmniVehicle logistics, like available Pod-mounted components, facilities, and even short reconfiguration times, can also affect performance.

The Reaper's attack has devastated K.D. warehouses across the galaxy, and most of this prototype equipment was either lost or destroyed in the chaos.
