Two Paragraph Backstory: Sare was born in 2138 to the Kial family, one known for its rather extensive service to the Hanar as agents of the Compact. Although before discussing the life of Sare, some history is in order.

The Hanar had saved the Drell from extinction nearly 8 centuries before this current point in time. The Drell were in a serious position - their planet was becoming overcrowded by the billions and saying resources were scarce was the understatement of the century. The story of their near destruction and then salvation is one that the Drell still seek to repay to this day. As the Haran found the dying world, they took what could be assumed as pity and In the following ten years, the hanar would transport a total of 375,000 drell to their homeworld, Kahje. The remaining billions left on Rakhana would perish on their dying planet, warring against each other for diminishing resources.

One of the many couples transported from the dying world, Victus and Sylian Kial were saved from the death of their world and taken to the ocean-world of Kahje - where they learned to live in their new homes - massive bio-domes. Unfortunately a disease called Kepral's Syndrome caused by the rapid change from their arid homeworld to the humid climate of Kahje It erodes the ability of drell lungs to take in oxygen, and eventually spreads out to other organs. It is noncommunicable, and there is currently no known cure. Sylian was unfortunate enough to fall prey to this disease shortly after she gave birth - her child and father could do nothing but watch helpless as she slowly withered away before dying as peacefully as one could with Kepral’s Syndrome.

The father, without a direction - began to serve the Hanar as one of the first agents of the Compact. The son, growing up with his father rarely around, sought reason for the absence of the figure throughout most of his life. He would have eventually come to find out however, and he came to understand it as a great honour. Justified almost. He wanted to follow in his footsteps, as anyone in that place might have done. And upon his 7th birthday, he was asked by the Hanar to join as part of the Compact, an agreement that Drell had signed upon taking the Hanar’s offer of salvation- an oath to fulfill any requests for them to take part in labour and tasks that the Hanar could not do. One such line of work was them being “agents” which in short meant “assassin”. Although Hanar were pacifists in nature and could not hold guns. Drell were perfect for the task.

The culture of recruiting Drell children as assassins from a young age was soon widely adopted by the Hanar. And such, from the father and the son of the Kial family reproducing, more of the Kial family were born and the Hanar soon recognizing that the family had excellent genetics for strength and biotics which were only honed and perfected over the ages of service in the Compact. The Kial’s became one of a the larger sources for the assassins, and even those who did not become assassins became well known politicians and speakers and diplomats. The family itself was very strict, preparing all of their children for service in the Compact, even if it did not come.

They did this to males and females alike, if this did not occur then they would be allowed to choose another profession in their life. Rebellious children in the Kial family were not treated to kindly as to their parents, they were insulting the family name and all it stood for. There have only ever been a few varied accounts of rebellious Kial, and those accounts detail the family quite literally, disowning them. Then they would put the now disowned child on a shuttle flight to the Citadel and leave them there to work out their own lives. This display is both kind and cruel at the same time, nonetheless they will never speak of any disowned children and act as though they never existed.

And such it was of no surprise that nearly 8 centuries later when Sare Kial turned 6, the Hanar arrived at his parents large property - a reward for centuries of service in the Compact. He was ready for this, and had been preparing for it since he was four. Even though it ran in his family, it was still a great honour to be chosen to be an agent of the Compact. As such, the white-blue Drell walked out with the Hanar with his head held high.Even though he was told about it, nothing could prepare him for the training which followed. It is to be noted that Drell do mature faster than humans, although the exact measurments from Drell to human years is unknown.

It was a change from the life he once lived, but still Sare accepted and embraced his new lifestyle. Taught that honor, free will, and compassion meant little in his line of work. And that he was to be a tool of the Hanar - molded as they see fit into an agent of the Compact. His training combined brutal exercises such as standing on a wooden pole in the middle of the ocean with waves crashing around him. As well as daily sparring with other agents-to-be. The hand-to-hand combat was ruthless, teaching agents to disarm or kill another quickly as the doctrine stated.

There were numerous techniques employed by the agents, a grand majority mostly focused on snapping necks or hitting the Temple of an enemy with enough force to kill, as well as the Nasion. Moves included hitting the the tail bone which could kill a person with enough force, something like a heart-punch could be useful with enemies that have larger hearts - making them easier to hit and more susceptible of hit hard enough. Such things like head-to-wall punches were also used, were the head would be hit so hard that it would fly against a wall and shatter the back of the skull. Although mainly, neck snaps, vertebrae rending (Twisting so forcefully that the nerve cord is torn to pieces), and skull attacks were the most promoted and used. These attacks were mainly as finishers to end the fight with as little pain to the enemy as possible, otherwise their fighting style outside of finishers was more geared to the human fighting style of Krav Maga. As it is the most comparable to the Compact agent’s techniques.

He also gained a strong sense of religiosity in the Drell faith, following various gods and praying to them before undertaking activities likes most of the Compact agents. He was also taught espionage and tracking to find targets that have gone cold for years. In additional to that, he was also taught that the main teaching point for taking another life had to fall in-line with the Hanar’s pacifist beliefs in a sort of sense. While they accepted that violence is a necessity, they taught Sare and the rest of the Compact’s agents to kill without pain, and to kill quickly.

A knife to the head or the throat, a bullet to the head, or a poison that kills without pain were all common means of accomplishing this. All of these tactics dictated by the Hanar made it seem humane in their eyes, and by extension - the pious code of both the Hanar and the Drell alike. Seemingly a justification of their work in training assassins from a young age, although it did not make the work of killing another any less horrific. Compact agents, before and after killing always pray to one of their gods. Before killing they pray to Amonkira, Lord of Hunters to aide them in the task, and after the deed is done they pray to Kalahira, Goddess of the afterlife and oceans.

Such training, coupled with the aforementioned pious code and the strictly regimented schedule, quickly turned the young boy into a trained killer. With his first kill at 14 when he was ambushed by two Turian thugs on a brief stay in Omega to collect some information for one of his first assignments. The thugs who were planning to mug the boy asked about his clothing and where he was going, they already felt some distaste to the Drell because of his clothing but when he answered their questions in an annoyed and sarcastic tone of voice - it drove them to attack. The first punch was aimed at his gut, and the Turian that threw it found his hand being directed away with another hand finding its place square in his jaw - stumbling back and losing his balance.

A split second later, he felt the Drell’s cold hands around his neck for but one moment, before Sare outright snapped it. The Turian jerked slightly and fell to the ground. Turning to the other who, in his horror, pulled a pistol from his pocket. He never had the chance to use it as Sare leaped forward with such agility that as soon as the Turian had his gun out Sare had already grabbed the base of his skull and henceforth quickly slammed it with enough force against the wall that the Turian died upon impact. Leaving the scene quickly he made his way back to his transport and informing his handler of his first kill. His handler suggested he carry a knife with him later to use for more practical situations, and to end them faster.

Like most Drell agents he fell into what is commonly referred to as “Battle sleep” where his soul had gone to sleep and his body carried on. Since Most Drell are deeply religious, believing that they have souls separate from their bodies. They see death as a departure from the body, and they also state that a person's body and soul form a Whole. When the soul is traumatized or otherwise disrupted, or the body is ill or injured, a person is no longer Whole. They also believe that their body can be directed as a separate entity from themselves, in the case of most of the Compact assassins, they merely see their bodies as tools of their employers which carried out the killings. To the Drell, the soul usually knows right from wrong, but the body cannot have any such knowledge. They accept that their body is not always under the control of their soul, and might to terrible things - but their body is not them, just a part of them.

Sare’s first target was one the Hanar has selected for him to test his mettle. It was a rising Krogan pirate lord who had been plundering various trade ships for quite some time. The intelligence provided for him noted that the Pirate was now in Omega once more to spend his money and go whoring - a great opportunity to stop him. Sitting quietly in the load bar Sare watched his target with the utmost care. Praying to Amonkira to aide him in his task, Sare moved as his target moved his dark eyes tracking the movements of the Krogan for a distinct moment to strike. Deciding to get the Krogan moving he played the bartender to tell the Krogan that someone had just badmouthed him - and a fight quickly ensured. Distracting the pirate long enough for Sare to make his way to the docking bay of his ship, seeing that there was one guard who was drinking himself half blind. Deciding not to arouse suspicious he made his way in the shadows past the guard and into the vessel, planting explosive charges in the pirates life support, engines, and a single one in the bridge.

Leaving the way he came - the Drell watched the pirate finally exit the bar and board his ship, Waiting until the docking bay clamps had been removed and the ship was out of the range in which it could hard civilians, he pulled trigger and watched the ship explode into a massive orange fireball. Taking his leave of the station he returned to the Hanar in success of his first contract - they informed him that he would not always taking contracts directly from Hanar and others would request his services, this of course is how all of the Compact agents functioned and he was just being introduced to the concept.. He was told that he would remain in their service and take their contracts above others - answering their calls when needed. As well as reporting to a handler, all Compact handlers were priests and he was to report to the one called “Delos” as his handler. Taking various contracts involving power bandits, rogue soldiers, war criminals, and high-class killers and Cerberus agents.

One agent in particular had been organizing high profile killings among the Alliance to get the people they wanted into power. Taking a contract from one of the generals to track this agent down before he placed more figureheads in - Sare had to dive into a network of contacts and spies, traveling to the citadel to meet with black market informants and “quietly” questioning suspected Cerberus lower-level agents. This was the beginning of Kial’s network of information which he would go on to improve and is still working on today. After weeks of putting together information Sare had his target, the agent would be gathering with two other Cerberus informants to find out who had been searching for him. In reality he would be finding out who it had been quite soon.

Making a silent and traditional prayer to Amonkira by placing his hands together with both thumbs and index fingers point up. Praying for the god of huntsmen to hold his aim true and his actions swift - Sare watched from a small house perched away from the dockyard where the agents were meeting. Zeroing in on the first agent and locking his target he squeezed the trigger, quickly reloading as the first fell to drop the second. Then leaping quietly from the perch he dashed across the tops of the transport containers where the final agent had his gun drawn, attempting to call for backup. Using biotics, Sare pushed the man into the ground and jumped down on him - planting a blade into the back of his head. The man fell limb, and he was dead - Sare flipped the body over and placed the agents hands on his chest respectfully and put his own hands together to pray to Kalahira.

This was one example of the techniques employed by Sare, of course he was hardly different from the other Compact agents and obviously not as skilled or infamous compared to the rest of them. Still, when the Reaper war broke out he had plenty of new contracts. Many involving taking out Collector encampments, Heretic Geth squads, and demolishing Husk caverns. That, of course did not mean he did not have to indulge in some political subterfuge - having done a few trades with the Shadow Broker while seeking information about his targets, Sare finds the figure that holds so much information fascinating. In private he secretly longs to know the identity of this mysterious figure, although he does not suspect his own desires will bear fruit. His efforts would soon be fully turned to the war after the attack on Kahje.

When the Reaper’s war machine came to bear down on Kahje, Sare and the rest of the compact agents returned to the defense of his new homeworld. The defense held out thanks to the efforts of the planetary defense, fighting ground forces. Commander Shepard also aided greatly by stopping a rogue Hanar Diplomat from disabling the defenses and shields. After the battle had been won and the Reapers moved from Kahje to the main target, earth, Sare had been reassigned to a Hanar cruiser now headed for Earth as gratitude for the Commanders deeds. The agents were to be considered intelligence assets, conducting recon missions and reporting important troop movements to the Alliance.

Sare was one such Agent, arriving on Earth he felt sadness as the once beautiful planet
that was comparable to his own, was being demolished by the Reapers. Receiving orders from Alliance command he strode through the ruins of London, sniping and covering troops from the distance, or getting in close and ripping Husks to sherds with biotics. Sare was a powerful force on the battlefield, even though the Compact agents could do little in the grand scale, they helped to support the main armies greatly. With the eventual destruction of the Reapers Sare resumed his work as a Compact agent - his current whereabouts are unknown, but with galactic politics heating up once more - and as long as there are two people left in the universe, someone is going to want someone dead. And Sare is happy to help.
