Born in the city of Nurhemathun on Thunawanuro, Dennar had always had dreams of Spectres and Military service ever since he had seen pictures of his childhood hero Ballen Jou in the line of duty. Growing up he was considered an odd-ball by most other Elcor for his enthusiasm for more physically demanding tasks and the urge to fight, something that many times had gotten him into trouble. Eventually joining the Elcor Military, Dennar hoped to become something more than just a glorified weapons platform for VI interfaces to command.

Many years later and many life lessons learned, Dennar had risen to the rank of commander and was in charge of the many important shipments that came and left the planet. During delegations by representatives for the council on Thunawanuro, Quarian extremists made attacks on several refineries and plants in retaliation for the events on Ekuna. During these attacks, the shuttle for the representatives was targeted alongside civilian populace.

Making a tactical choice, Dennar chose to see to the saving of the civilian populous in favour of the representatives. Through a situation out of his control, the representatives shuttle was destroyed and a bomb saw to the deaths of many civilian Elcor. After these events Dennar was unceremoniously stripped of his rank, a punishment severely lenient given the severity of his failures. Demoted to desk duty, Dennar never gave up hope of one day returning to proper duty or beyond. Even toying with the idea of going to some place like Omega to "clean the streets" like the old dumb movies he used to see imported from the Citadel.

He eventually became complacent and remained on Thunawanuro until word of the Reapers came and many planets came under attack from them and similar threats. Going out to the front lines, Dennar would assist in the defence of Dekunna until the Flotilla was amassed to carry civilians and fellow warriors alike. Thanks to the intervention of Commander Shepard, Dennar lived to fight another day. He vowed to use his lifetime of experience to help in any way possible, even if it meant leaving his home behind.
