Two Paragraph Backstory:

"We're a family... I mean, without Kathy and Mom, but still a family."

Alicia Merryweather Liddel was born on Earth as the daughter of a now divorced Human Diplomat named Naomi Kane and a Doctor employed at Huerta Memorial, Joshua Liddel. Her parents were married but split after the birth of their last child due to marital trouble, but Naomi kept her maiden name. Alicia's mother continues to be irritated that her youngest daughter uses her father's last name over her own. Alicia has an older sister Katherine, and a younger brother named Lewis. The hot-headed middle child, 'Alice' spent most of her time with her father with her little brother on the Citadel, while her older sister Kathy stayed with her mom on Earth. The family rarely had contact, once every year or so in order for Alicia and Lewis to see their sister and mother, but for the most part the two of them remained close to their father and very distant from the two other girls in the split family.

When Lewis was just starting school at age 6, a mugging gone wrong when their father was walking him from school turned violent when the Doctor pulled a gun and was subsequentially hospitalized and comatose from his injuries sustained by the attacker, a Batarian. He later passed away in the same coma, with his daughter and son by his side in the very place he had worked. The event proved very hard for Lewis to handle and soon retreated, becoming a quiet and polite child. Alicia only turned harsher, lying on many forms about her legal age in order to keep her mother from taking custody of them and making them move to Earth.

"You don't know how to take care of him. He doesn't even want to talk to you, bitch."

Eventually, her mother moved to the Citadel with Kathy in tow as a mini-Politician, forcing themselves into Alicia's life while she tended to her little brother. Lewis wasn't much of a talker anymore, only uttering a few words in the presence of Alice and never in front of Kathy or his mother. When Alicia was finally, in the eyes of a law, an adult, she moved out and took Lewis with her to attend med school, following in her father's footsteps as a doctor. With her little brother, credits got tight as he needed treatment on occasion in order to try to get him to go back to school and to resume a normal life. They managed, and Alicia graduated with honors as a doctor. When she joined with the Alliance, it was mainly for the stipend she would be getting. The money would be for her brother, so he could continue getting his professional help for the trauma he still had from his father's accident. Lewis is currently living on Earth with Alice's good friend and room-mate, a neurosurgeon named Michael Lawford she met in University. He's also someone Lewis has grown equally fond of, and tends to have small conversations with him. He still prefers to talk to Alicia though, which proves problematic when she gets calls from Mike in the middle of her work day concerning him.

Now a member of the Alliance and her title as Dr., Alicia's ready to do whatever it takes... Within reason. Also prepared to follow orders... Sometimes. She might rip a bullet out of you or stitch you up, but that doesn't mean she likes you. Earning her trust or respect isn't easy, but in the end, you have a friend who will follow you to the ends of the galaxy and back... As long as she gets her paycheck, that is.
