Born as a cesarean child on the historic colony world of Shanxi, Luke Teth was identified as a biotic almost immediately after his birth, his mother having been in a fairly severe car crash while the boy was in utero. While his mother died during his birth, Luke Teth was still taken in and given great care by his father, a former Alliance Marine by the name of Kyle Teth. Kyle grieved for the loss of his wife, but never once blamed any part of her death on Luke, viewing his ability as a biotic as more of a gift than anything, and something which would contribute to their family heritage. As Luke would learn from his father at a young age, it was a tradition for all Teth men to serve in the Alliance military, as his father put it, Luke would serve the Alliance in some form or fashion before he extorted it. While in his childhood, Luke did not properly understand the weight of such a tradition, and only began to fully understand it in his younger teenage years. With the assistance of his father, Luke spent most of his time at the age of thirteen considering his options when it came to military service, initially drawn to the life of a marine, as per his father's suggestion, before he came across the idea of special forces, specifically, the N7 program.

Within the colony Luke lived in, there was a man by the name of Vance Halloway, a First Contact War veteran and, as Luke's father referred to him 'the town psychopath'. Vance however, had an ongoing program of training individuals for military service, and particularly special forces. Signing up for Vance's rather cruel, and unorthodox training, Luke spent very little of the next number of years socializing. Most of his time was spent between training with Vance, learning to utilize his Biotic ability, and at school, the only time he did really get to be social was at school, and that was not for a particularly long period of time. Almost every day from the age of fourteen to nineteen, Luke was with Vance for training, trained mentally and physically with little goal other than to ensure he would not quit, which, partly due to the encouragement of his father, he reached. When he finally did turn nineteen, Luke enlisted in the Alliance Military as a Marine Biotic, making it through boot camp with little issue, as his training had essentially conditioned him.

Engaging in numerous smaller deployments, Luke's first major test came with the Eden Prime War. Deployed for almost the whole length of the war, Luke saw numerous engagements with the Geth, but had no real opportunity to prove himself until the war was nearing a close. Surrounded by encroaching Geth forces, Luke, a Lance Corporal at the time, deliberately drew fire as he moved to higher ground, using his position to utilize his biotics, protecting the others in his team from Geth fire in order for the group to escape, before utilizing his biotic capability to defeat a large number of the Geth before he was forced to retreat himself. For his quick-thinking and ability to keep his team safe, Luke was offered the opportunity to attend the Interplanetary Combatives Training program shortly after the war ended. Happily accepting, Luke finally held the opportunity to utilize the training he'd held over the years, and did well enough to be granted the designation of N1.

For the next year and a half, Luke spent most of his time going through the subsequent courses, being instructed in zero-G combat, military free-fall, jetpack flight, combat diving, instruction, linguistics and frontline trauma. Performing fairly well, it was primarily due to his younger training that Luke was able to perform well enough in the Special Forces program to finally achieve the designation of N7. Taking some brief leave time after achieving the designation, Luke was celebrating on the Citadel when he heard of the Reaper invasion of Earth, reporting for duty, he engaged in numerous operations throughout the galaxy to assist the Alliance's war effort, finally leading up to London, where he has now been deployed.
