Backstory:

Ryley, born to a pair of civilians living in the poorer areas around Harare, Zimbabwe. Whilst being lucky enough to live amongst the poor in the city, he was in no place to be able to gain from the benefits of the rich either; although this wasn't really much of an issue due to his family's belief of where they were in the economical classing system was just fine for them. Ryley, like any other child, would go through education like the many of children of Zimbabwe, learning the knowledge of not only their world, but the worlds of other races, as dictated within the education system. It was noted that Ryley was not a very academic child, resorting to enjoying sports and the odd other occasional hobby whilst he grew up. Whilst Ryley usually got on decently with everyone he met, he had a small group of friends that he would interact with far more than the others, the group being about ten or so in size. With the relatively large neighbourhood and the diversity of the Alliance, Ryley was subject to a wide range of social statuses and ethnic groups which, in time, would broaden his view on culture.

When Ryley slowly became older and became an early teenager, he would begin studying in high school to develop the knowledge he had learnt as a kid, still retaining his non-academic standpoint of education. He was lucky enough to retain a majority of friends within the group he grew up in, losing a few and gaining new friends simply levelled out the group and made it more diverse. It was at this time that Ryley was taking on new hobbies of sport and grew into the video game industry, playing them occasionally with his friends to simply 'chill out' and have a good time. Things back home were fine, too, with his father starting up new work with the Alliance as a civilian engineer whilst his mother continued her job in running a small cafe located in Zimbabwe. For the most part, Ryley had the majority of his life set out for him, wanting to go into the games industry after first finding his interest, picking up his IT skills and occasionally reading up about how the games industry worked in order to get where he wanted to get to.

However, his dreams were crushed when the Reaper war erupted when he was just sixteen years old. What started out as a peaceful day at high school turned into something out of a sci-fi film. At first, nothing seemed off until they appeared. The reapers, descending on Earth, with their forces of destruction also causing destruction by street level. The immediate panic was felt across the city, with the Alliance caught off guard. With his fight or flight mode activated, Ryley ran as fast as he could for cover and concealment, not wanting to be spotted by the huge reapers towering over him or their minions below. He was not alone, however. As he ran out of the school, his group of friends had gathered with him, seeming to find safety in numbers as they made their way to the nearest underground area that they could find. The chaos in the streets was terrifying, strange deformed creatures that Ryley had never seen before causing death and ruin wherever they were seen, Ryley and his group of friends were lucky to have avoided them, being too focused on their current goals to notice the group of fleeing students. With their mostly unharmed escape into the old subway tunnels below Zimbabwe, the group were able to get over the initial panic and slowly plan their course of action. With the group separated from their families, the sounds of the end times simply continued on above them. As much as they wanted to try and go out and gather their families and stick together, they all knew that it was certain death. Nobody could sleep that night, each and every one of them worried sick about the fate of their families, praying that they were alive and well.

The next day, the group devised their plan for survival. Fortunately for them, the old tunnels were located within walking distance of a nearby supermarket, which would house enough food for them to bring back and survive for a long while at least. With their backpacks emptied and ready to go, the group emerged into a slaughter of a city, still under the assault of the reapers. Whilst making their way to their destination, the presence of Reaper ground forces was intense, constantly moving around to bring death to any life hiding within the shadows of their masters. Whilst the group successfully made it through to the supermarket due to luck and a little bit of skill picked up from sneaking out of home, the group packed as much food and other supplies as possible, Ryley being designated to grab as many medical supplies as possible, being able to stuff a large amount of tablets, bandages and other items of use into his pack before gathering with the group. When they proceeded to leave, one of them; Dillow, an american who had moved to Zimbabwe alongside his family, was spotted and gunned down by a patrol for being too careless and panicked. With every supply as valuable as gold, Ryley rushed over and ripped the backpack from the corpse of his friend before making his escape, the patrol following all the while. Ducking and weaving through streets, the group was able to lose the patrol and quickly made their way back to the underground, lucky enough to have all survived. That night, they remembered Dillow, making an agreement to make sure that his death wasn't for nothing.

As the Reaper war raged on around Earth, Ryley and his group of friends did their best to survive. Doing occasional night runs to gather supplies. This was only temporary, however. Soon enough, Alliance forces began their engagement of the Reapers in Harare, hoping to drive them off and allow the evacuations as much time as possible. As soon as Ryley and the group heard of this, they quickly made their way towards the nearest evacuation site, still being quite a distance away on foot and with Reaper forces in the way; it was a simple choice, stay and die or put in their all to at least have a chance of getting out of the once peaceful city turned warzone. With the group set out, they would quickly be picked up by Alliance forces and escorted to the evacuation site. Things would not be that simple, however. As they traversed the war torn streets, the group was quickly ambushed by Reaper forces, the military force getting brought into an engagement that certainly looked grim for them. Even with the yells for the group to run as fast as they could, Ryley saw different; not wanting to be the one that left his fellow man to die during their time of need. Instead of running, Ryley simply picked up a rifle and started firing towards the enemy. As shots were exchanged, more and more of Ryley's group too found their courage to fight alongside their saviours, picking up the rifles of the fallen and bolstering their firepower. Untrained but willing, alongside the training of the marine forces, the group were successful in their desperate struggle, finishing off the patrol that had found them. The gunfire was not unnoticed however, the sound of more of the disgusting creatures seeming to close in on them. With no real choice, the group make their best attempt of holding their ground to tend to the wounded of the last skirmish, taking cover in a nearby building and had only a few minutes to fortify. Whilst the marines tended to their wounded, the remaining alongside the group of students stood up against their certain doom. Firing thermal clip after thermal clip, they held for as long as they could, not wanting to die running. They were lucky, however, with another force of Alliance military moving into the area to assist. With the group brought time to move, they were quickly escorted to the evacuation ships just in time. They had done it, they had escaped and survived Earth but with great uncertainty; were their families alive and well? Where would they go from here? What would be the fate of Earth?

Spending the next three years on Unity Station, Ryley waited desperately for news of his family, trying to recover from the hellish experience he had just been through. Once he was the suitable age of eighteen, he was taken into the Alliance Marines and trained up to serve alongside the very same group that had saved him from extermination back on Earth where he would be relocated to a training facility to receive basic training for going down the career path of a simple infantryman. Whilst he would spend two or so months reviving the basic training required to join into the ranks of the Alliance marines, putting everything he had into it, not wanting to fail. Once his two month period of drill after drill was complete, he was passed by his Drill Sergeants and reassigned to a new unit and a new location. This is where Ryley's story begins.
