Two Paragraph Backstory(For Returning players it is only one Paragraph), Five to Seven Sentences per Paragraph.

Yakov Kozlov was born on April 4th, 2160 CE on Earth in the depths of old Kharkiv, Ukraine, to Anton and Klara Kozlov. As fortune was to be, the young boy came to be raised in a hellishly poverty-stricken area with little hope of achieving anything beyond a basic education. For the majority of the city's inhabitants, pitiful employment in manual, industrial labor was excepted to be the best one could usually achieve; a good portion of the remainder contributing to the urban crime that continuously plagued the local populace. In spite of these circumstances, the immediate and extended family of the young Yakov acted to regularly place heavy emphasis throughout his initial years on achieving his maximum potential and beyond; the conditions of his upbringing being mere obstacles for him to overcome. His father, in particular, indoctrinated his growing son in the tenants of Stoicism: To face the future without complaint, to act on rational thought and reason, and to not only endure, but live happily with what reality has given him. The content of these teachings would become well-engraved in the mind of the juvenile and soon showed to be a distinguishing trait amongst his peers.

Entering primary school, Yakov proved to be a dedicated student. Though not particularly adept in terms of quickly grasping the academia laid out before him, the pupil's yearning to view the world through the rationale described by his father led to him developing a strong interest in the lessons and principles being taught to him. This keen want for education, though alienating some of his classmates who had already come to accept their future as low-level labor, enabled Yakov to successfully transition onto and through the basis of secondary school with fairly satisfactory grades. Athletically,  he was no loafer either, for as soon as he had been graduated from the premises of his primary school, he fell under pressure from his family to attend a local Boxing club for the purposes of hardening his physical resolve while also learning how to defend himself from his less-than-savory neighbors. Training whenever his schoolings permitted, the young lad would routinely fall under a torrent of immense physical stress as his fellows and instructors tested his mettle, pushing him through exhausting exercise and brutalizing sessions in the ring. Yet, whenever he yielded and fell, his compatriots would prop him back up, give him some words of encouragement, and repeat the process. Four years of this near-daily procedure throughout the context of secondary school provided further enhancement to the teachings of perseverance, fortitude, and sheer grit originally instilled into him by his family figures. By the time he was preparing to graduate, Yakov had become a steeled man ready to brush aside the expectations of his associates and press on to whatever he so sought in life.

The principle issue at this point in the aspiring Yakov's life was not how he would achieve his goals, but what exactly were they to be. Though he had proven himself both physically and academically to receive plentiful assistance in terms of scholarly pursuits and career training, he had not truly considered what would best suite him. At the time, he, like almost everyone else living in Kharkiv, Ukraine, gave not a single damn to the "politic" of the exterior world and beyond, paying little true thought to outside events, let alone humanity's interactions with the other species of the galaxy. When asked by some of his Boxing companions if he wished to enlist with them in military service, he politely declined, citing that he had no real interest or need to join up. On the flip side, Yakov also had no intention to remain in the cesspool that was old Kharkiv. Using a connection established through one of his former teachers, he emigrated to the outskirts of the nearby city of Kiev, working at a regional warehouse whilst contemplating his true life pursuit. During this time, he would come to enter a relationship with another worker, Ruslana Makowski, with the two soon living together in a well-established apartment area. Having accomplished the archetypical rags-to-semi-riches story that was so commonly mentioned and having found a possible match for himself, Yakov felt rather comfortable in his dwelling and even more in the thought of narrowing down his choices of permanent career to that of either educational or scientific pursuits. Life seemed to be going quite well, indeed.

However, such triumphs were not to go unobstructed. After having filed an application to the National Technical University at Kiev, Yakov received word of the deaths of both his parents, dying in quick succession to the other as his father was killed working on the job with his mother succumbing to a heart attack not long after. Emotionally burdened but not deterred from continuing his education, he calmly proceeded to make a return to old Kharkiv, addressing funeral costs, legal matters, and sending his devoted progenitors to rest before returning back to Kiev. There, Yakov was surprised to find Ruslana proclaiming him to have evidently became a new father during his absence there. Reacting in a manner in accordance to all that he had been taught to that point, he greeted the news as a happy turn of events and set about preparations for the matter. Knowing what would be required of him and more than aware of what had fated many of those he had left behind in his hometown, he abandoned his own pursuit of education in exchange for that of his child to be. On June 17th, 2182, Ruslana bore him a son, christened Markus Avreliy Kozlov, at the cost of her own life during his birth. Yakov, at only twenty two years of age, was a widower and single father.

As he again bore the death of a loved one, Yakov again came to terms with the situation he was given. His employment, whilst paying well, would not suffice in upholding his current standard of living whilst bringing up a son. He, yet again, returned home to Kharkiv, entrusting his son to the temporary care of his cousins living outside the city limits whilst he himself adopted the work he had strived all his life to avoid. Taking on up to three jobs at a time, he dedicated what funds he could scrounge to the future of his child while living off what essentially equated to starvation rations. In seeking advice to his situation, Yakov came into contact again with his former Boxing companions who had enlisted in the Systems Alliance Marine Corps. It was by them that he was alerted to the potential benefits associated with service, to the point of being able to ensure the prosperity of his son even if he himself were killed. Weighing his options between dying in a industrial hell-hole with a fifty-fifty chance of keeping his child from crime and poverty and enlisting as an Alliance Marine, he chose the latter. After ensuring his cousins were fine with holding onto Markus during his time away, he took a trip down to a nearby recruiting station, signed his name on the dotted line, and subsequently boarded the bus to Boot some time later.

Yakov proved to be a bit of abnormality upon arriving to Basic Training, being some years older than the bulk of those around him. Despite this, he soon showed himself to be quite the comrade in arms, taking the punishment of physical training without gripe or protest and commonly seen providing words of encouragement to his fellow unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit Marines-in-training. Engaging in a variety of exercises and lessons, he and his unit soon rose to be very much proficient in the art of interstellar infantry work, mastery at arms, and the doctrine of military discipline and professionalism. At age twenty three, Yakov is graduated as a fully fledged Private and Rifleman of the Alliance Marine Corps, and is shortly there after shipped off to garrison a multitude of stations and outposts for the next several years of his life.

With the invasion of Earth in 2186, Yakov and his unit would partake in the defense of their home world, being deployed to bolster the counter-offensive operations on the ground. Landing in the theatre of northwest Europe with the second wave, the unit would engage in extensive urban warfare, fighting a street-by-street battle of attrition against the hordes of Reaper-spawned abominations. Holding steadfast against the onslaught in the face of growing causalities and potential encirclement, Yakov and his brothers in arms endured, and with the rest of the Systems Alliance Forces located there, lived to celebrate their eventual victory and preservation of their planet. Battle-weary and exhausted, he and his unit were granted relief and permitted to set off for some impromptu shore leave, to which he spent the entirety of confirming and enjoying the well-being of his friends, family, and son.

The Reaper conflict coming to an effective conclusion, Yakov originally thought himself liable to spend the rest of his service days in the calm monotony of outpost guard work. However, upon returning from leave, he and a number of other marines from his unit were directly consulted by their Company Commanding Officer for the opportunity of reassignment to more active operations; their tenacity in Europe having evidently earned them some note amongst figures in the higher echelons of command. Though hesitant in accepting the offer given his brush with death, the honor of the recognition convinced him to welcome the chance and subsequently transfer over to the newly formed Joint Task Force.
